The platinum bullion coins „Noble“ is one of the best known coins world wide and was issued between 1983 and 1989 by the Pobjoy Mint on the Isle of Man. Different finishes as brilliant uncirculated (1987), proof (1988) are also available. Between 1995 and 1996 the Noble was issued as well in a BI-metal and Hologram version.

A byproduct of the gold indrustry, platinum was treated as waste in the 17th century. How the times have changed. Today it is a cherished and sought after heavy metal in many industrial branches, as it is soft, easily mallable and corrosion resistant.

The motif depicts a viking ship of ages past. Underneath nominal value and weight are mentioned. The obverse depicts Queen Elisabeth II’s portrait and the minting year.

A specialty of this coin is, that it is both legal tender on the Isle of Man as well as Great Britain. The Isle of Man has its own currency, the Isle of Man pound, which is traded 1:1 with the pound sterling, and the minting rights.
