The transition of the German states to the German Empire was followed by an introducing of a common currency - the Mark. Every German state got coinage rights, including the Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The 20 Reichsmark gold coin of Hamburg was minted between 1871 and 1918. The reverse side of this coin shows, like every other Reichsmark coin, the crowned imperial eagle. Also you may find the year of mintage, the nominal value of 20 Mark and the lettering “Deutsches Reich”.The obverse side of the coin shows the coat of arms of the City of Hamburg. As it was fairly common in this period, this coin has a fineness of 900/1000, so the gold content was 7,16 g, the full weight of this gold coin is 7,965 g.
Investment gold is exempt from tax under § 25c UStG.
